About Us
Samatat Sanskriti, Uttarpara
Introduction
Samatat Sanskriti started its journey in 1997 as a cultural organization of likeminded youths and performing arts enthusiasts of Uttarpara and of the vicinity.
Samatat started its endeavour in theatre in the year 2000 by organizing a children's theatre workshop in association with Kolkata based theatre group Sudrak. Under their supervision Samatat produced its first play "Arshi Desher Porsira" casting the students of the children's theatre workshop. In this very year, Samatat registered as an organization.
From 2001, Nandikar stepped in to supervise Samatat with their children's theatre workshop and production and continued this help for years. Samatat is also well known in Bengali theatre for its theatre festival. Samatat started its theatre festival in the year 2000.
Today, Samatat Sanskriti is a theatre group consisting of theatre workers of different ages and background. The young enthusiasts and seniors of those early days are now retired or middle aged people still finding their life-force from theatre. Theatre kids of those early days are today's visionary youths who are striving to turn their passion into a professional career.
These youths are the backbone of Samatat and an integral part of its leadership. Samatat is still continuing its works in Theatre in Education and therefore, there is a constant flow of children and students of all ages.
In this journey of twenty two years into theatre Samatat also attracted many grown up people who have refused to grow up. These people either came in as guardians or teachers or merely theatre enthusiasts with other professional background and got attracted to the intoxicating spirit of theatre and still cannot leave its inebriating traits behind.
